F*ck the living. Honor the Dead.

George W. on Monday defended his policy of non-withdrawal in Iraq, saying of the troops who have died there (thus far); "We will honor their sacrifice by staying on the offensive against the terrorists." Ahh, yes. It's the same old language. I love the logic of the lunatic. The entire "we can't stop now" business is nothing less than fascinating.

In case you don't see where I'm at here, I'd like to add some other possibilities:

"We will not overturn Roe v. Wade, in honor of sacrifices of countless aborted fetuses over the decades."

"We will not fail to renew the Patriot Act, in honor of the sacrifices of all the innocent civilians whose homes have been searched, phones tapped, and library records pulled without their knowledge, a warrant or probable cause."

"We will not sell our gas-guzzling SUVs in favor of fuel-efficient hybrids, in honor of the sacrifice of each and every drop of oil incinerated in the name of my convenient commute. (You KNOW they feel pain, too, right?)"

And more personally,

"I will not quit smoking, in honor of the sacrifice of my every lung-cell which was bravely destroyed by carcinogens over the last nine years."

"I will not stop eating meat, in honor of the sacrifice of countless chickens, cows, turkeys, pigs, deer, buffalo, turtles, frogs, ducks, ostriches, llamas, dolphins, pandas, condors, and that worm that Joe dared me to eat in 2nd grade, all of which lost their lives in the name of my fickle cravings and have each respectively passed through my digestive tract over the years. Um, bravely. And, erm, with patriotic ferver. Because, ahem, they knew what they were doing was right. And, well, I suppose they had no choice."

And so on.

By all means, add your own. Rain forests? Stem cells? Someone out there keeps running up my counter. . .

"i will not stop drinking nescafe instant coffee, in honor of remembering nestle's key economic role in supporting apartheid in south africa."

fact: university of minnesota students lead a boycott against nestle for their role in upholding apartheid.

i think it was the first boycott of its kind against a multinational company in the name of human rights. proud to be an alum!
